Brian Stelter and Oliver Darcy here with some news of our own...

Brian Stelter and Oliver Darcy here at 10:00pm ET on Thursday, August 18th... The future | BY BRIAN STELTER: I started writing this daily newsletter in 2015 with exactly zero subscribers and as the readership grew, day after day, it became one of the true joys of my career. I feel like I know all of you – and your pets too! So today I have to share some news about a change. CNN is ending the Sunday edition of "Reliable Sources." As you all know, I have loved anchoring this show for the past nine years. It was a rare privilege to lead a weekly show focused on the press at a time when it has never been more consequential. NPR's David Folkenflik broke the news about CNN's decision here. And Frank Pallotta wrote about the announcement for CNN Business here. (Yes, today I had to respond to a request for comment from my own colleague! First time for everything.) I'm going to be signing off CNN this Sunday. Right now our small but mighty producing team is working on bookings and ideas for the TV finale. I am in awe of their talent and I am going to do everything I can to help them find new roles. As for me, well, I have to gather my thoughts. So I'll see you this Sunday at 11am ET. Feel free to email me any time. And we have more news for you... So, I'm handing off to Oliver now... | | | What to expect next BY OLIVER DARCY: Working with Brian over the last five years has been a journey unlike any other. He's been a first-class colleague, mentor, and friend. We've been through a lot together, and I'd be remiss if I didn't say that it's going to be quite strange for a while covering media here at CNN without him. But the important work of holding powerful media figures and institutions accountable will continue at CNN. It must continue. In the immediate future, this newsletter will take a brief summer hiatus. But in a few weeks, I will return with a reimagined product that expands our coverage and mirrors the complex media landscape our nation and world are facing today. The newsletter will tackle trust and all who influence it, from news anchors to podcast hosts to popular internet personalities. It will examine broadcast and cable news, newspapers and digital news sites, social media companies, streaming services, and all the platforms that make up our modern information economy. And, perhaps most importantly, it will be unflinching in its coverage. You have my word on that. If you have ideas about what our future coverage should look like, I want to hear them. Email me here. With all that said, rest assured, I'll be back in your inbox soon. |

| IN THE MEANTIME... Brand new episode of the "Reliable" podcast BY BRIAN STELTER: On Wednesday, before all of the above happened, I taped today's "Reliable Sources" podcast episode. These Thursday episodes have been a space for deep discussions about the news and how it's made. And this episode is no different: Alice Miranda Ollstein of Politico and Shefali Luthra of The 19th discuss their roles as health care beat reporters in the wake of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade. They talk about coverage priorities; different types of stories about abortion; and sudden spikes in interest about reproductive rights. "I think what's been so deeply important to me has been trying to prioritize the voices of people who are affected," Luthra said. And this comment by Ollstein has been in my head ever since we taped: "I just feel a lot of responsibility to rise to this moment and do the best and most responsible and hardest hitting reporting I can."
